Pain relief?
I am 39 weeks and 3 days and I'm expecting him to come anytime soon but I can't make my mind up about pain relief during labor. What did you take or did you go natural? I'm scared of an epidural, but I'm also scared of pain!

I attempted to go natural, but I found myself begging for drugs once the contractions really started to hit. Just go in with an open mind! Good luck!

I am totally with you!
I am going to make the decision on the epidural when I am in the hospital and actually feeling the pain. I won’t know exactly how bad the pain is until I actually feel it…so I am just going to stay open about it. I don’t want to dismiss the epidural all together and think I can go all natural, without knowing whatthat pain feels like…no matter how scared I am of getting an epidural.
Don’t be scared of an epidural. They’re not bad at all. They numb the area for the needle to go in, and by the time you get one, you really really don’t care a bit. They take the pain away wonderfully. Downside is, you have to labor and birth laying on your back. Risk is a headache if they pierce the membrane around your spinal cord. Despite what many people say, it didn’t slow my 4 hour labor down a bit. Pushed maybe five times, ten minutes and she popped right out.
DON’T get Nubane, a sedative. That stuff is horrible. It makes you go into a fog and forget much of your labor, and later, you sort of wonder if it was you giving birth or someone else.
I have heard that a spinal block, with morphine is great, which I probably will try next time so that I can walk during labor and try water birth.
I had an epidural.. trust me it isn’t as bad as you think when you are having labor pains.. I suggest having the anesthesiologists standing by just in case.. If the labor pains get too bad, first option for the alternative IV drugs.. and if they don’t work get the epidural.. trust me it’s worth it..
I’m sure if you make an appointment with your anesteciologist you can discuss all options, perhaps a local before the epidural. Anyone putting a needle into your spine, you have to trust, maybe set up for a consult to meet with him, so you can develop a sense of security with him. That alone should ease your mind than just meeting him as he walks in with a needle in his hand.
I had a c-section. I asked for them to put me to sleep which they did. When i woke up they had me on a Morphine pain pump then they took me off of it because i was “talking out of my head” then they gave me 10mg of Percocet every 4 hours then sent me home on 60 7.5mg Lortabs.
